During our combined 76 years of law enforcement service, very few things have touched our hearts more than the disadvantaged children we have encountered. Hardly anything has had more of a positive impact on our lives as being able to help a child who has precious few places to turn to for help. The holidays are fast approaching and we need you to help us brighten the faces of some of those disadvantaged children here in our community.
This will be the second year we have been involved in the "Shop With a Sheriff" program. This program is a collaborative effort between the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the Fayette County Board of Education, and hopefully you. The Board of Education identifies several deserving children whose prospects for a joyful Christmas Season are dimmed by their family’s personal circumstances.
We take those children on a shopping excursion where they are encouraged to buy those items they need most. We say “encouraged”, because they are often too discouraged to dare hope for the opportunity to have such things as new shoes, coats, clothing, and even an appropriate toy or two.
Last year, our deputies who took children shopping were moved to tears by a seven year old girl who picked out a pair of shoes and hugged them to her chest as if they were made of gold; apparently, to her, they were.
This year we hope to double the number of children we helped over last year. With your contribution we can make that happen.
